They have all just arrived in France. They may be Irish, Serb, Brazilian, Tunisian, Chinese or Senegalese. These youngsters aged between 11 and 15 find themselves in the same reception class of a Parisian junior high-school to learn French. Director Julie Bertuccelli followed their struggle to get to grips with a new language over the course of a year. In this multicultural arena, we see the innocence, the enthusiasm and inner turmoil of these teenagers, caught in the midst of starting out on a new life. This insight challenges preconceived ideas about school, youth, religion and integration and delivers a message full of hope.
