- Sam Hammer, a run-down private detective, and Chang, his assistant, a Chinese chef, depart on a mysterious, highly paid mission: Sam's job is to find a missing angel, who seems to have gone astray on a rescue mission. It sounds like a joke, but the money is real. So Sam and Chang go on a journey, where all their steps seem to be predetermined by Sam's client. Sam gets lost in a labyrinth of mysteries, crime, murder, obsession and Mafia power struggles. He has to confront some dark moments of his own past and must meet a bar singer again, who he once loved. An angel statue seems to be the key - the police and the Mafia are trying to get hold of it. But nothing is, what it seems and Sam gets caught in a web of crime, false play and deadly competition. Chang turns out to be an invaluable help and is often the better detective. Together they solve the only unsolved case in Sam’s life and find the missing angel, where Sam didn't expect it…
