- Synopsis
- Megan, 16-year-old high school cross-country runner has emotionally shut herself off from the world after the tragic death of her father. While running on an isolated trail, she meets the mysterious and odd Jack Scissors, a teenage boy about her age. With his red head band, long tube socks, and painfully short shorts, Jack looks stuck in 1978 and talks nonstop about his idol, Steve Prefontaine.
  
  After being continually bullied and harassed by one of her cross-country teammates, Megan decides to let Jack train her for the end-of-summer 5k race. Over their summer together, Jack pushes Megan out of her comfort zone in all aspects of her life.
  
  As the day of the race draw near, Megan’s relationship with Jack blooms as she confides in him about her struggling relationship with her mom and the truth about how her dad died.
  
  But when Megan delivers groceries to a Joanne Scissors, she discovers that Jack’s mom is now 85 years old and that Jack passed away in 1978 when he was just 17 years old. Megan is stunned and hurt when she realizes that the one person she can confide in and has come to love, isn’t real. He’s only a ghost.
  
  Megan must decide, does she continue on with her training? Should she reach out to her mom? Will she do the hard things and live her life like Prefontaine - with all heart? Or will she go back into her shell and hide from the world?
