    • A boy of Bosnian refugees and a Swiss girl fall in love. The initial benevolence of their parents soon turns into insurmountable hate as the cultural opposites between the two families become more and more apparent.

Laura Müller grows up in sheltered circumstances in the suburbs of Zurich. As a young child she meets the Bosnian refugee Amer Salihovic. The two fall in love and spend every spare minute together. But when the two families, the Müllers and the Salihovics, go their separate ways, the two lovebirds lose touch as well.

Eight years later coincidence reunites Laura (Julia Schiwow) and Amer (Shpend Salihu). Laura has become a talented soprano and is rehearsing for a choir concert; Amer is doing an apprenticeship as a carpenter and has a career as a kick boxer. At once the magic of their childhood romance is back.

But this time round the lovers cannot expect their families to be supportive. On the contrary: the two fathers do their very best to break the couple up.

Romeo & Julia in the City (Romeo & Julia in der Stadt) is a contemporary adaption of Gottfried Keller's novel «A Village Romeo and Juliet».
