ROMEO & JULIET IN HARLEM (THE DIRECTOR CUT) is now available for World-Wide distribution. The film was originally created for a Educational Distribution Company DVD ONLY release and it was only seen in schools. That agreement has expired making this TIMELESS CLASSIC 100% available to the USA and all International Markets,

ROMEO & JULIET IN HARLEM - THE DIRECTOR CUT starring Harry Lennix, Aunjanue Ellis and Erica Gimple, is a unique retelling of Shakespeare’s most beloved play “Romeo and Juliet” with modern-day Harlem as the backdrop. The film also made CINEMATIC HISTORY as the first Shakespeare feature film adaptation of his plays with a complete CAST of COLOR that stayed true to the storyline and text. By staying true to Shakespeare’s original text (some of the most beautiful words ever written), the film allows Shakespeare's words come alive in 2023 - while surrounded by the vibrant community of Harlem. But Harlem is not only the location for the film, it is a pivotal character incorporated into the film, with scenes taking place on Harlem's famous streets: 125th Street the heart of Harlem's thriving shopping area, Harlem's historic Brownstone neighborhoods, basketball courts, subway platforms, and parks, and scenes were filmed at New York's spectacular Caribbean Day Parade, which has 1 million participants and 3 million viewers. To reflect the diversity of the Harlem population, the film has been cast with actors of color and numerous nationalities are represented. It goes far beyond the simplistic concept of a "Black vs. White" or a "Black vs. Latino" adaption of ROMEO AND JULIET that has been done before. Whereas Harlem is a successful melting pot, it can also be a divided community as feuds between new immigrants from Mother Africa vs. new immigrants from the Caribbean, African American families with "old" money vs. African American's with new money moving into Harlem community, and so on. This “battle of differences” is what fuels the feud between the Capulet and Montague families - turning the sweet and tender love story of “Juliet and her Romeo” into a tragedy.
