    • Synopsis
    • Jimmy is a nihilist with a hilariously bleak view on life. He carries a leather, black doctor’s bag around with him containing the rope he plans to hang himself with. A sticker on the bag reads ‘He is Risen’. Jimmy is filled with guilt and shame and has let his inner demons take over. Jimmy returns home to the cold austere beauty of West Cavan to say goodbye.
At home his brother, Damien, has been stuck looking after their sick father for seven years. He is consumed with bitterness and self-righteousness at Jimmy’s disappearance. As soon as Jimmy visits his ailing father, he dies. The second his father breaths his last, the thunder rumbles and the rain starts to pour. And there is a condition in the will... that his father cannot be buried on a wet day. Jimmy is stuck in his hometown until the rain stops.
Days roll into weeks and the rain continues to pour. As the relentless rain pours, Blues musicians from all over descend on the little village. Blues music pours from the bowels of every shop, pub and street corner. The Blues songs act as a chorus for the film, providing a cool, textured melancholy to the rain soaked town and plight of Jimmy. The hometown becomes Jimmy’s purgatory where he must find salvation. He feels the only way he can find forgiveness for the terrible sins he has done, is to sacrifice himself. But can the healing properties of love save him?
This comedy drama will celebrate the caustic black wit of Ireland and the delicious, earthy vernacular of County Cavan and South Ulster. Themes of loneliness, homecoming, anger, dejection, faith, suicide and salvation will be portrayed in an unflinching, unsentimental, and blackly comic manner. Biblical symbolism will be rife in a god-forsaken village that is cursed with a plague from above. Stuck in this 'Groundhog Day-like' purgatory, Jimmy seeks redemption, and through love he finds it in the most sacrificial and outlandish manner possible.
