Synopsis
22 April 1988, Uvea, New Caledonia. A commando of Kanak freedom fighters attack a gendarmerie, killing four gendarms and holding 30 others hostage on a tiny island. The French army sends in 300 men and an arsenal to restore order. SWAT captain Philippe Legorjus will spend ten days negotiating and trying to avoid a massacre. But in metropolitan France, the presidential race between François Mitterrand and Jacques Chirac compromises procedures; 19 Kanaks and two gendarms die in the assault on the Uvea cave where the hostages were held.
