The film tells the long and unlikely story of the friendship between the Kaiapó chief Raoni and the Belgian filmmaker Jean-Pierre Dutilleux over a period of 50 years. Jean Pierre’s film “Índios” (1973) and “Raoni” (1976), which was nominated to the Academy Awards and had the participation of Marlon Brando, made Raoni known internationally. "Raoni, uma amizade improvável" records several meetings between two friends over the years and up to current days. During this time, many victories were achieved, including the demarcation of the Kaiapó people territories. The film is a tribute to the fight of the indigenous chief Raoni for the preservation of indigenous territories, their culture and Amazon rainforest, in Brazil and around the world.
