- Synopsis
- Ana, living in a small coastal town in Mexico, is searching for meaning in her life. Even tho’ she's employed as a baker, has a supportive mother and a great boyfriend, she’s unfulfilled. While vacationing with her beautiful friends and a young heroin addict mother, the boat breaks down and the group of seven is rescued by Frank, a corrupt sea captain under contract with the US Navy. The crew is loyal to Frank as Ana falls victim to the charm of his first mate, Nassim, an equally nasty character. Unknown to all but a few, the new boat carries a water creature captured accidentally when the earth's crust is compromised during routine drilling in the Mariana Trench, the deepest crack of the ocean. Frank plans to sell the unknown entity and become rich. The creature is nearly invisible, made of water. In the ocean it is harmless - once removed it has a taste for saline in humans. It hides but we can still hear it. We can see it during thunder or loud noises. The selfish captain releases the creature, it travels in Rain and other bodies of water and soon jumps into a storm, headed straight for Ana’s village, celebrating Mexican Independence Day. Frank leaves the group stranded without communication but the US Navy brings rescue and resources to track and chase the new life form. Their scientific resources are quickly eliminated, and Ana sees the devastation the creature will cause when it reaches land... her home town. Her friends try to help pursue the creature alongside scientists and war experts in the government. The creature changes shape, size, escapes easily and is because of its ability to jump into rain and travel by storm, is elusive and quick. Will Ana get to her family in time? Or will she lose more close friends, relatives and co-workers pursuing the beast? And when the beast sets her sights on Ana - now the pursuer has become the target - can smalltown Ana save the day...
