- Synopsis
- Milan, 1904. In the bohemian lodge Belle Epoque a group of friends animate the party: Orestes the writer, Goffredo the owner and his beautiful young daughter Annetta, the painters Carlo and Luigi, the anarchist Filippo, the singer and prostitute Serenella.
  A young Giacomo Puccini arrives. The premiere of Butterfly, his first opera, was disastrous.
  Mascagni the musician, Giacomo's rival, arrives with his friends. They are clearly drunk. They start fighting.
  The owner kicks them out and closes down. Everyone's gone but Giacomo. Goffredo let him stay over.
  Suffering from insomnia, the young Annetta is looking up at the moon and dreaming of independence and freedom. Giacomo spends the night playing the piano. Annetta is listening to his music, they end up spending the night together.
  They kiss in the thundering silence of desire.
  Suddenly the lodge catches fire: the flames are spreading fast.
  Annetta must now find the money to fix the tavern and also to take care of her father. Giacomo promises her a better future, but in the morning his producer Ricordi brings him with him to New York.
  
  6 years later.
  The premiere of “La Fanciulla del West' is a great success.
  Everyone's at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel having fun.
  Giacomo is amused and emotional. All of his friends are there, Annetta too.
  During the evening Ricordi notices that Oreste can’t take his eyes off Annetta and when he’s drunk, he confesses his love for her.
  The night continues, Puccini and Annetta are now alone. They'll spend the night together, in love.
  However, the next day Ricordi forces her to leave...
  
  Milan, 1920.
  Annetta is the owner of the lodge. She's married and her son is 10 years old.
  Giacomo's back. It's been 10 years. He smiles at her...
  They know they'll forever be in love despite life keeping them apart.
  Giacomo dies a few years later. Their son will never be legally recognized.
