    • In a gripping and unflinching tale of courage and defiance, Chand’s life becomes a symbol of the brutal realities faced by women trapped in the Paro Bride slavery system. Through the eyes of Mohar, a determined scholar, with her research the hidden horrors of this practice are brought to light as she uncovers the story of Chand—a woman sold as a bride, torn from her family, and subjected to unimaginable abuse.

Chand’s journey is one of gut-wrenching loss that starts at the age of 13. After being sold into a life of torment, Chand loses her first son who abandons her with nothing but contempt and disdain due to the weight of the shame of being the son of a " PARO" bride slave. Her second child, still an infant at her breast, is violently torn from her arms by a society that refuses to see her humanity.. The abuse she endures is beyond comprehension, yet through it all, she clings to the hope that love and safety might one day find her. When Rashid, her third husband, buys her, Chand dares to believe that she might find solace. But this hope is shattered when Rashid betrays her, forcing Chand to face an impossible decision that will shape her future.

In the face of relentless oppression, Chand discovers an inner strength she never knew she had to save her third child. Her final act of defiance against the system that has kept her chained ignites a transformative journey—not only for her, but for all those who witness her struggle. In a shocking turn of events at a university gathering, Chand & her story take stage, captivating the audience.

What begins as a tale of unimaginable suffering evolves into a powerful message of rebellion, hope, and change. Chand’s voice challenges the world to confront uncomfortable truths, daring society to question its assumptions and prejudices. Chand's journey becomes a symbol of empowerment, a celebration of the indomitable human spirit, and a testament to the transformative power of one woman’s defiance.
