A natural calamity that claims the lives of his parents and uncles compels a young Keshav to take forward the family-run business. Over the years, he manages to become an eminent businessman, whose 60th birthday is celebrated by his young nephew Nandu with grandeur. However, Keshav identifies his solitude and melancholy, and harbours a secret of having applied to the Swiss government for permission to end his life peacefully. Keshav then meets his college sweetheart Shama during a visit to Kolkata and he realises that her sudden glimpse personify the vacuum of his adult life. He finds out that Shama has been living as a recluse. He realizes that while both of them had drifted apart, they shared their loneliness.
