    • Synopsis
    • PAINTED HORSE is a coming of age story set on the Great Plains in the late 17th century before white settlers arrive. It is an origin story of the introduction of the horse to the Plains Indians. The heroine of the story is a 13 year old Cheyenne named Cloud Girl.
      Upon announcing to her surprised family that she wants to go on a vision quest, this precocious girl is kidnapped and enslaved by the brutal Comanche. While a prisoner Cloud Girl sees a herd of wild horses for the first time and is in awe of their beauty and grandeur. Witness to the Comanche’s attempt to capture the horses Cloud Girl sees the powerful and clever stallion, a Painted Horse, avoid every trap set for his herd.
      Black Hand, chief of the Comanche, shoots the stallion with arrows so that he may capture the stallion’s mares. Cloud Girl escapes and finds the wounded horse and nurses it to health. She is the first of her kind to ride a horse. But the stallion will not take her home. He wants his mares, and they have been captured by the Comanche...Cloud Girl must free them!
