1920, South Italy. At the dawn of Fascist regime, the farmers of a small rural community in Apulia succeed to elect the first Socialist mayor ever to achieve a better life. The local landlords maneuver the Black Shirts (mainly WWI veterans) whose backlash is immediate and ruthless: fourteen peasants, including women and children, are drowned in their own blood. This widespread violence struck dumb the village and paves the road to restoration of the ancient order. Witness of these dramatic events is a young friar, Padre Pio, renowned for his sanctity and thaumaturgy talents that he uses to heal people in the day and to fight the visits by the Devil in the night. But who’s now the Devil of the village?
