  Fall 2004. Koosje hears that her cancer has returned. She writes a letter to minister Verdonk, asking permission to offer her place in society to best friend Zahra, someone who really needs it. Zahra is about to be deported back to Afghanistan, where she and her family will not be safe. "I am dying, can Zahra take my place?"
