After the French defeat of June 1940, a young Senegalese Tirailleur, Addi Bâ, manages to escape from German prisons and to hide in the montains of the Vosges. Diminished, having lost contact with his brothers in arms, he is taken by a primary school teacher. Aided by villagers, he gets a job in a sawmill and obtains false papers. Choosing engagement rather than leakage into the French free zone, surrounded by those who seek, like him, to act against the occupier and who do not yet call themselves "Resistance fighters", he participates in the foundation of the first maquis of the region. Addi Bâ will lead military the Maquis de la Délivrance, supply it with arms and food and organize acts of Resistance. The Germans, who spottet him, call him "The Black Terrorist".
