The summer of 1942. Communications officer Ogarkov and private Dzhurabaev, who can barely speak Russian, are fighting their way through the German encirclement. Time after time finding themselves in difficult situations the two young men learn to trust each other. After going through many hardships, they become true friends who will do anything to save each other from death. But war is war… Dzhurabaev is killed, and Ogarkov continues on his way to Victory, which eventually leads him to Berlin. The film is based on a story by Emmanuil Kazakevich “Two in the Steppe” and the war diaries of Konstantin Simonov.
