    • Synopsis
    • O Coro is, first of all, a choral film. A multiple film centered on a handful of characters dwelling on a choir in the Symphonic Orchestra of Curitiba, in the south of Brazil. Before the concert where they will play Beethoven’s Ninth, orchestra director Paulo spends all of his time on the project with an obsession that, deep down, hides his mother’s health problems. Recently divorced Antonia goes to the choir as a chance to find a new start. Salomon, an experienced opera singer, seems to be on the opposite extreme of Antonia, and looks for (rather excessive) distractions out of the music scene. Francisca, finally, is a young aspiring singer who works at a call center and fights against her suicide impulses. With a patient and subtle eye, Schumann follows all of his characters with the same interest and, surprisingly, without any need to force them into the same frame. He’s aware that sometimes the best way to paint a group picture is by doing it individually.
