At the age of 12, Kallpa, an indigenous boy from the Ecuadorian highlands, decides to reveal his desire to be a woman to his family and town during the Inti Raymi (winter solstice) festival. Ñusta explores gender transition through instinct, the body, the indigenous cosmovision and sexual abuse.

    • Synopsis
    • Ecuador 1997. Kallpa (12), an indigenous boy from the Azuaya community, lives among the misty Andean mountains and large vegetable plantations. Together with his sister Sisa (14) and their mother Toa, they prepare for the celebration of Inti Raymi (winter solstice festival). Sisa was born on the same day of the ceremony, which makes her a candidate for her community to be elected as Ñusta, but she does not want to, while her brother does.

      Every morning they leave for the market square in the city to sell their harvest. Kallpa between the shouts of the vendors, the stores around the square; she will meet Nebraska and Julieta, a young transsexuals who run a hairdresser's, in the market house, they will guide and will be her engine to face her family and community.

      Between Kallpa's curiosity and the changes in his body from childhood to adolescence, he will strengthen his desire to become a woman, he will understand that it is not only to reveal himself to his surroundings, but to fight to be accepted in a society that is debating the beginning of decriminalizing homosexuality in the country, showing that he can be a Ñusta (princess warrior) without the need for a ceremony.
