    • Synopsis
    • It’s the height of winter when Judy’s teenaged-son Jamie takes off for the oil fields, leaving Judy and her husband, Ed, to continue their quiet life on the shores of Aleza Lake, Canada. But when Ed dies of a sudden heart attack, Judy’s life spirals quickly away from her. Struggling against her disease, her grief and the isolation of her world, Judy fights to maintain control. Meanwhile, after a brutal attack on the pumps leaves Jamie shaken, he returns home defeated. Each with their own secret demons, mother and son carry on, finding respite from their troubles in the company of the pregnant teenage girl who delivers their groceries. But when Christmas arrives and Judy suffers a nasty fall on the ice, the two are forced to acknowledge her worsening state. It is only when Judy finds a way to outwit her uncooperative body is she able to uncover again the strength she’s always had.
