    • Synopsis
    • Noboru always had a difficult relationship with his grandfather Hideo, who is inflexible and bitter, because of the hard life he had. As Hideo tells his story, he talks about his third son, Haruo, the uncle that Noboru never even knew existed. Haruo was born in Brazil and would question his father Hideo, who was very attached to his beliefs about Japan and to the Japanese traditions. Uncle Haruo was even banished from the house for a week when he was a kid! Years later, he had to run away and was never seen again. Upon hearing the story, Noboru is upset with his grandfather and storms off. Hideo is angered by Noboru’s disrespectful behavior, but also feels sad, as he sees himself repeating the same mistakes that took his son away in the past. One day, hears a story about a hero in their community: A man who went to jail for teaching Japanese during World War 2. He is astonished to discover that this man was none other than his grandfather Hideo! Noboru is now really proud of his grandfather. Hideo also realizes that he wants to handle things differently this time: he doesn’t want to lose his grandson in the same way that he lost his son.
