Kyoto, 1461. A devastating famine and plague simultaneously struck this area. The ruling powers remained inept, enjoying their wealth. Seeing the hellish landscape of Kyoto, a vagrant, Hasuda Hyoe, rallied outlaws and orchestrated an unprecedented riot against the colossal authority.

- Kyoto, 1461. Several years later, the country will be in ruins in the Upheaval of Onin that will go on for 11 years. People are already suffering as the famines and plagues cause devastation. Over 80,000 bodies pile up on Kamo River's banks in just two months. In the Dark Ages of Japanese history, human trafficking and the slave trade thrive as the people in power enjoy their wealth without improving the lives of the less fortunate. The introduction of money is widening the gap between them.
  
  Hasuda Hyoe is a vagrant. He relies on his skills as a swordsman and his wits to survive the chaotic times. Though he appears laconic and disinterested in the welfare of others, he has a secret scheme to upturn the Shogun's authority. Seeing the hellish landscape of Kyoto, his determination only gets stronger.
  
  Saizo, a young man with an uncanny potential to excel in martial arts, is a loner. He has no family, hopes or dreams until he encounters Hyoe, who takes him under his wing. Saizo's training is so intense that he risks his life on several occasions but he survives and becomes a master of staff fighting with a 6-foot staff that makes him practically invincible.
  
  And the time to revolt arrives. Hyoe assembles a motley crew of martial arts expert/outlaws; an iaijutsu master, a master spearman, a strongman with an iron club, a Korean female master archer, etc. Together they commence a scheme that leads to a riot on an unprecedented scale. Hyoe's old friend, Honekawa Doken who is now his foe, leads the Shogun's army to stop their attempt. It's death or glory for Hyoe and his team as they take on Doken with his Skull Sword and henchmen.
