    • Synopsis
    • OTHERS IN SILENCE tells the stories of motherhood of four women who are working together, united by a common goal: the creation of a theater production.

Jimena and Luz, the directors of the play, are a couple and are expecting their first daughter: Primavera. The film witnesses their wedding ceremony, with the added excitement of carrying Primavera in Luz’s almost full term belly. Then, the preparations, the dreams, the fears… Jimena is concerned: as the non-carrying parent, she wonders if she will feel left out in this new family they’re building.

Finally, after unending hours of labor, reality imposes itself on the mothers' fantasies with an emergency C-section. And that longed-for child arrives. As Luz recovers in the operating room, Jimena holds her daughter in her arms as Primavera cries. And so, with a reassuring voice, Jimena whispers: "You are with Mom now, you are safe."

The second story is about Paula, the costume designer of the play. Paula dreamed of being a mom for as long as she can remember. She tried unsuccessfully until one day, already in her forties and without a partner, when her chances seemed to be coming to an end, she had an epiphany: "I can adopt!". From that moment on, nothing would stand in her way: not the objections of family members, nor the risks, nor the difficulty of embarking alone on that journey. Today, Paula is the mother of Lucas, a boy with an undiagnosed disorder who is unable to regulate his emotions. He requires medical attention and special treatments of all kinds. Paula chooses not to believe the doctors who give her pessimistic outlooks. Paula helps him, supports him. Paula despairs, overflows. But every night, without exception, before going to bed, Paula and Lucas celebrate their luck with a phrase that has already become a mantra for them: "We are so lucky to have found each other."

And finally, Danna. The author and protagonist of the play that brings these women together. When her second son was born, for a reason that medicine could not explain or anticipate, the baby did not breathe for a few minutes. The result was a brain injury. And if life always changes with motherhood, if one is never the same person, imagine what happens in such an extreme situation.

"How much are you willing to give for your children? Everything. You are capable of anything. Of killing if you have to kill," says Danna.

Danna experiences an extreme, challenging motherhood, in which she has to fight for her son's life. And at the same time, she writes an autobiographical play that tells her story, a play that talks about motherhood and beauty. The beauty that is hidden everywhere, even beneath the pain.

MOTHERS IN SILENCE portrays the joint artistic creation process of Danna, Luz, Jimena and Paula, and accompanies them from rehearsals to the opening night of this play that is inspired by Danna's story but speaks about all the motherhoods in the world.
