    • Synopsis
    • In the film, we return to the time before education was compulsory. Many young children did not go to school and were instead exploited in factories and on farms. They never learned to read or write. Tom, Dick and Harry have exciting adventures together in a film including a record number of animals: from tame geese to wild goats, from the good old cow to swans to two donkeys in a donkey race – and we get to see lambs being born.

      THE STORY
Ten year old Tom dreams of going to school - but he lives in an orphanage. With the other orphans, he is exploited and has to work hard every day at the illegal broom factory in the orphanage basement. The children are desperate for the Education Act to come into force, which will make education compulsory for children between the ages of 5 and 10. When Tom manages to escape, Jet lets him hide out at their farm. It is the start of a race against time full of exciting adventures, mischief and new friendships – all while trying to keep Tom out of the hands of the headmistress of the orphanage.
