    • 'Memang Jodoh' is a hidden treasure in Indonesian literature. After more than 50 years kept, the work was finally published to the public. This is the work of a great Indonesian writer Marah Rusli, who is known through a legendary romance work, Sitti Nurbaya (Kasih Tak Sampai).

      'Memang Jodoh' is a love story between Marah Hamli with Din Wati. Marah Hamli is a handsome, intelligent young man from a respectable royal family line in Padang. He aspires to continue his studies in the Netherlands. But it was opposed by her mother, Siti Anjani , fearing Hamli will be captivated by a foreign girl. At that time, the prevailing custom stated that, a marriage between a noble man with a woman from another areas is an insult. Hamli then decided to migrate to Java island to continue his education, accompanied by his grandmother.

      Hamli aware that he suffered from "melancholy" that he himself did not understand the cause . Until he finally met a highborn woman of Pasundan, Nyai Asmawati Radin, who is often called Din Wati. Since that meeting, Hamli feels his pain is gradually recovered. He realized that his love for Din Wati is a customary offense that will cause a big problem for him and his family. But that did not deter Hamli intention to marry his lover. They eventually got married secretly, attended only by a few families.

      News about Hamli and Din Wati wedding spreads to both families. Hamli’s family performs a variety of ways to separate him from Din Wati. Starting from using black magic, advocating a divorce, even suggesting polygamy with a girl from Padang that is chosen by Hamli’s family. However, Hamli remain faithful to his beloved wife. As a result, Hamli is expelled from his family and forbidden to return to Padang.

      This is a story about the power of true love, a great sacrifice for love and happiness.
