- Synopsis
- Based on the short story by Brazil's classic author, Guimarães Rosa, comes an epic story of Augusto Matraga, a feared man that lives above the law in the farmlands of Minas Gerais. In the midst of his turmoil he is ambushed by his enemies and is left for dead. Reborn, Matraga seeks redemption through faith and arduous labor. Years later, he comes across Joãozinho Bem-Bem, a powerful landlord, and his posse. This new friendship triggers a sequence of events that brings the film to a climax when Matraga, in a struggle between good and evil, comes upon his hour and his chance.
