Synopsis
Lucky Fish follows the story of Sanjay Pillay, the struggling owner of Pillay's Pilchards, a business facing financial ruin. After his sister, Samantha, is fired from her job as a beauty pageant manager for being too inclusive, Sanjay suggests she create her own inclusive beauty pageant, with Pillay's Pilchards as the sponsor. Samantha assembles a group of unconventional contestants, much to Sanjay’s dismay, as he worries about the impact on his brand. As Sanjay navigates the chaos of organizing the pageant at his fish canning factory while avoiding debt collectors, he embarks on a personal journey. Initially trying to shape the contestants into his outdated ideals of beauty, Sanjay eventually realizes that beauty exists in all forms, and each woman is beautiful as she is. Lucky Fish is a comedic yet heartfelt story about body positivity, changing perceptions of beauty, and female empowerment. Set in Phoenix, it offers a fresh perspective on the Indian community and explores themes of progressive inclusivity, highlighting how outdated beliefs must evolve in a changing world.
