    • Adapted from Cengiz Dagci’s novel “Korkunc Yillar,” (Horrible Years), published in 1956, the movie is about the human tragedy and the suffering of the Crimean Turks who were taken hostage as prisoners of war in German prison camps during the Second World War. Sadik Turan was born in Crimea, in the years following the Soviet Revolution when people expected their cultural rights and realm of freedom to widen, but on the contrary were subjected to the pressure of Russian nationalist politics... Shaken during his school days, when soldiers from the Red Army come to the classes and tell them they will be using the Cyrillic alphabet, rather than the Turkish alphabet from then on, Sadik before long sees that they're prevented to live not only according to their national identity, but also their faith, and that their mosques are being torn down. Sadik, who fights in the Red Army lines as an officer, and is captured by the Germans during the II. World War, starts to work as the liaison officer at the prison camp because of his fluency in German. Soon afterwards, he becomes part of the German plan to establish units consisting of Turks with the promise of freeing Crimea from the Russians and liberating it, and starts to serve in the German army. But realizing that this is a trick, Sadik will now take action for the real liberation of Crimea, and in the meanwhile will meet the love of his life Maria.
