    • Eight years ago, John "Doc" Paxton was awarded the Silver Star for saving the lives of his Special Forces Team in combat. Now, John is a civilian paramedic/firefighter and married to Laura, also an Army veteran. They have one daughter, Carla.

John and his partner, AJ, roll out of the station to a house fire at a suspected drug den. John's Army buddy, Tim "Philly" Phillips-now the local sheriff-is already on the scene. John and Philly see the arsonist and are about to give chase when part of the house explodes, killing AJ. A few days later, John is introduced to his new partner, Dani Larson, a former Navy corpsman. She proves herself to be more than competent on their first call together, earning John's respect and trust.

On another call, John saves the life a young boy caught in the crossfire of two rival gangs. The boy's uncle and guardian is local drug kingpin, Billy Blankenship. Billy offers John a brand-new SUV as a thank you for saving his nephew. John refuses but recognizes Leon, Billy's right-hand man, as the arsonist. Billy has Leon deliver the SUV directly to Laura. When John gets home, Laura puts her foot down and insists on keeping it, not knowing who it's from. John finally relents and they keep the vehicle.

Meanwhile, Billy is concerned that he will be suspected when it is announced on TV that the drug den fire is under investigation for arson. He tries to tempt John again, this time in exchange for John's testimony. John refuses another gift and embarrasses Billy in the process. A furious Billy sends Leon to abduct Laura and Carla and tells John his family will not be harmed if John will testify that the fire was not arson.

John resolves to attempt a rescue but Philly convinces him to wait and takes John to visit their former commander, retired Colonel Ira Clayton, now the owner and CEO of one of the largest defense contractors in the world. Clayton offers his entire operation in support of the mission and sends his private jet to pick up the other members of John's former Special Forces team.

The reunited team, along with Dani and two of Clayton's men, goes into action and the drug gang proves to be no match for them. Laura and Carla are rescued but, when the smoke clears, Billy is nowhere to be found.
