    • Synopsis
    • It was 1811 when Chang and Eng were born in the kingdom of Siam [now Thailand]. These twins were nothing like other people–they were conjoined at their chests, they were inseparable, and they will have to live like that forever, for the rest of their lives. That rare condition would force them to endure cruel hardships, but it would also lead them to an incredible adventure around the world.
As children, they were condemned to death by the king of Siam. Miraculously, they survived the scourge of cholera that lashed the banks of the Mekong River. At an early age, the twins learned how to support their family by working as traders in their village. Their own mother, in extreme poverty, was forced to sell the twins, who were taken to the Americas to be exhibited as exotic creatures. Yet, and despite being gawked at by a morbid society, the twins managed to become independent, well-educated, and prosperous men. They were art enthusiasts, avid readers, astute traders, husbands and exemplary fathers of 21 children.
Their life story was a rollercoaster of extreme and changing situations. In spite of being physically connected, their different personalities and sporadic domestic quarrels sparked their desire for surgical separation, something which was scientifically impossible at the time.
