Documentary - Development 2021

Is man good or evil? Innate is an eye-opening documentary that attempts to answer this, not by asking theologians or religious leaders, but to evolutionary behavioral psychologists. Innate reveals that our base survival instincts have never changed. We are still our hunter-gatherer ancestors.

    • Innate is grounded in the flourishing field of evolutionary psychology. Our propensity toward tribalism, violence, sexual desires, stress, and happiness, are all understood through this lens. The ghosts of our evolutionary past continue to haunt us, but they also help answer some of the most fundamental questions about our nature.

Ingrained in our psyche is the Us vs Them mentality. Whether it be a nation state or a Corporation, our natural tendency and desire to want to be part of the group is hardwired in our brains. This has caused us to do horrible things in the name of loyalty; does this makes us intrinsically evil?

In the smallest of groups, the relationship between the opposite sexes are riddled with lying, jealousy and treachery. The most common suspect in all murder cases is the deceased person’s partner, yet are monogamous relationships a social construct or are they human nature?

Even with more luxuries than in all of history, depression and suicide rates are on the rise in developped countries. As our world gets faster and more complex, we are confronted more and more with gadgets and activities that subvert our natural inclination to pleasure, but at what cost? Are we built for happiness?

With the help of real world examples, the documentary series examines the social and psychological impulses that formed during our long pre-agricultural era in order to explain the contemporary challenges we face and determine the true good or evil nature of our species.
