- Synopsis
- A portrait on film of the legendary filmmaker and artist Maya Deren, who is a central figure in the American avant-garde. Forty years after her death Deren has achieved the status of a myth and is the subject of countless anecdotes. The film reconstructs the fascinating life story of this pioneer and unrelenting propagandist for the art film through discussions with contemporaries and illustrates it with archive material which in many cases has never before been made public.
