    • Synopsis
    • Edward Couvillier is an 85-year-old boat builder. He was born and raised on a houseboat in the swamps and never made it past the 8th grade. But his brain is capable of things that elude even trained maritime engineers.

Following a tradition that goes back generations, Mr. Couvillier builds exquisitely made cypress boats. Boats that are more akin to art than carpentry. But he doesn’t use any blue prints or plans. Not even a sketch. Instead, in perfect proportions, he visualizes an extraordinarily complex three-dimensional image of the vessel–every fine line, every sweeping contour, each tight angle, is built exactly from the mind of its maker.
