In perpetuo explores the lives of the last knowers of an ancient fishing practice that is nowadays disappearing: trabucco fishing. Shot entirely on the Gargano coastline – more specifically between Peschici and Vieste – the documentary recounts the daily life of the last remaining trabucco masters and their heirs.
With the approach of observational cinema, the trabucchi become the very microcosm where everything takes place and where the rhythm of the days is constantly set by the relationship between man and a sea, as generous as it is impetuous and destructive. In perpetuo wants to reflect on the relationship between past, present and future, questioning the concept of passing on from generation to generation.
The four characters, with their gaze pointed toward the horizon of the sea, reflect on the uncertain survival of these ancient machines that are enduring the approaching of their demise still anchored to those same rocks, after centuries.
