    • Synopsis
    • Manuel Guzman Kizer, a 30 year old Venezuelan of Jewish descent, is looking to escape the violence unleashed by the government. Being a Jew was never something he could publicly be proud of due to anti-Semitism.
As the Crisis in Bolivarian Venezuela emerges he finds himself only to have to work for the government in order to work at all. Manuel is a reporter and camera operator so he begins to work for the CNE. (The National Electoral Council which has the responsibility of overseeing and guaranteeing the transparency of all elections and referendums in Venezuela).
The truth behind the scenes of the commercial shootings is something Manuel can't ignore. Manuel understands that the hope and better life the government promises is a mere false propaganda he is forced to take part in. He looks for a way out.
The Crisis in Bolivarian Venezuela is a socioeconomic crisis that Venezuela has undergone since the end of Hugo Chávez's tenure and which, extended over the years into the current presidency of Nicolás Maduro. The crisis affected the average life of Venezuelans on various levels; the rise of unemployment, which resulted in the emergence of social movements aimed at changing the economic and productive model, as well as questioning the political system and demanding a democratic renewal.
Shortages begin to occur in regulated products, such as milk, various types of meat, chicken, coffee, rice, oil, precooked flour, butter prices; and also basic necessities like toilet paper, personal hygiene products and medicine. As a result of the shortages, Venezuelans must search for food, occasionally resorting to eating wild fruit or garbage, wait in lines for hours and sometimes settle without having certain products. A state of chaos which made Venezuela become the leading country of suicidal rates and one of the most dangerous places in the world.
Using some of his connections Manuel tries to immigrate to Malaysia and the Dominican Republic only to find that there is still no chance of a better life. Manuel decides to search back on his Jewish roots and finds in Israel his only hope to have freedom and a chance of a prospering future. The Journey he goes through while making Alia through the Jewish Agency is a touching story of the importance of the Zionist movement and the importance of keeping in touch with one's Jewish roots. Manuel moves to Jerusalem in the beginning of 2017, joins an Ulpan to learn Hebrew and to study the culture and religion that makes him feel home again.
Only after leaving the Venezuela can Manuel really tell the story of the people he left behind without the immediate threat of being shot by the government. Even though his family is still there, he knows he will never be able to return. With true ambition to build his family as proud Jews in Israel he is reborn.
