    • Synopsis
    • Sophie an eighteen year-old Greek-American girl and her friend Vanessa travel from the U.S. to a hauntingly beautiful Greek island to celebrate graduation but their leisurely summer holiday takes a turn for the worse when Vanessa is found dead. Restrained from leaving the island, Sophie finds herself unwillingly drawn into a threatening mystery by a handsome local young man, Aris, who is determined to protect her, concealing details about her best friend’s death.
Her life changes direction in ways she never imagined. He is nothing like the other young men she has met. His life is centered on the traditions of a mountain community of beekeepers, whose culture emphasizes modesty and separation from the world. The community has its own set of specific practices and rules that they abide and live by.
As intriguing as it is to see how much they are alike in so many ways, it is also shocking when Sophie realizes that he can fly… literally. The young man is a vampire, coming from a tribe, which ancient king of Crete, Minos, expelled and tried to eradicate. Aris doesn't drink human blood because his people are unique among vampires in that lifestyle choice: A monk sacrificed himself in the sixteenth century to save the tribe of Icarians offering them a curative potion.
Sophie finds herself in a highly charged erotic and intellectual relationship with him, and they tumble headfirst into love—a romance in which secrets and astonishments are dangerously confused. Aris faces excommunication for violating the tribe rules, and Sophie will not let anyone hurt him, until she is forced to confront turbulent discoveries about herself. They have no choice but to run away. But they are not alone; now that the truth about the girl’s past is out, Sophie and Aris are in grave danger from another vampire tribe consumed with hatred of Icarians.
