    • Synopsis
    • Hidden in the dark cinemas of Seine-Saint-Denis, Kollywood films illuminate Tamil culture through an interactive cinematographic mode of consumption that diverges in many respects from the Western cinematic universe.

Kollywood is the contraction of Hollywood and Kelambakkam, a district of the city of Chennai where there is the largest number of film studios in India.
This cinema bears witness to the survival of a South Indian culture scarred by the war, but which, through the cinematographic medium, shows the enthusiasm and the hopes for social ascent of the French Tamil community, and allows them to hang on to their roots, to the love of their mother earth whether they were born there or not.

Through the testimony of proven fans, distributors, actors, specialists, this film traces a growing cinema recounting their fascination, their dream, their history.

With scenarios with multiple dramatic arcs, characteristic music, singular choreographic processes and a fantasy in the treatment, the cinema of Kollywood is in real emergence, now occupying a considerable place in the world cinematographic universe.

In Ile-de-France alone, the Kollywood films on display stir up Tamil fans, filling all the multiplex theaters in record time, thus testifying to the economic stakes of Kollywood cinema in France.
