    • Synopsis
    • Azeneth Farah is a mexican who sets out on a journey in search of her own identity, called by a mysterious family anecdote: her grandmother's incarceration in the 70’s in Bolivia. The main characters gradually reveal themselves: Gringo Farah, Azeneth’s father, is a bolivian exile surrounded by silence; Gloria, her mother, is the one who introduces Azeneth into the family's secrets; Blanca Henrich is the grandmother who was in jail during the Banzer coup in Bolivia for being a communist and who is the engine to tell the story, and Mozo Farah, the falangist great-uncle who imprisoned Blanca. Time and distance give each character a very different perspective of what happened, how it happened, how conflicts were resolved, how each one lived their part of the story. Who is telling the truth?

      I laugh at the waves is an autobiographical documentary that inquires about memory processes. Told through the voices of its protagonists, it is an intimate exploration of emotions, family relationships, the impact that politics and exile have on them, and that exposes the role that women play within this family nucleus.
