    • Synopsis
    • Directed by Richard Shepard (The Matador) and Produced by Brett Ratner, this exemplary 40 minute documentary describes the extraordinary story of actor John Cazale, the unsung great of 1970s character-acting, who co-starred in only 5 movies in his brief career, with each one of these films being nominated for best Picture at the Academy Awards ©:The Godfather, The Conversation, The Godfather: Part II, Dog Day Afternoon and The Deer Hunter. Many of you may not remember his name, but you’ll almost certainly know him as Fredo…
Interspersed with clips from Cazale’s movies and rarely seen photos and home video, I KNEW IT WAS YOU features candid interviews interviews with those who loved him and knew him well, including his best friend Al Pacino, Gene Hackman, Robert De Niro, Richard Dreyfuss, Francis Ford Coppola, Sidney Lumet and his girlfriend at the time Meryl Streep. The film also includes insights from a younger generation of actors and filmmakers inspired by Cazale, among them Philip Seymour Hoffman, Sam Rockwell, Steve Buscemi and Brett Ratner. John Cazale died tragically young at the age of 42.
