Locations The village of Tarik’s grandparents, the city hospital, the scenes of Tarik’s dreams.
Back-story Tarik’s world is shattered by a devastating car accident. His father dies and his mother is brought to the hospital in a coma. Tarik goes to live with his grandparents in the village. He has lost his memory in the accident, but he has a dream, and it’s always the same.
Conflict Tarik’s grandparents love him dearly. His grandmother tries to make him feel safe, while his grandfather tells stories to inspire and educate him. Adjusting to village life is still not easy. Tarik gets into fights with the village boys. The ringleader, Sinan, tells Tarik that he has to pass some trials if he wants to be accepted.
In one of the trials, Tarik has to go to the cemetery late at night. Tarik sees a strange man at the cemetery, talking to a grave. The next day, when Tarik joins his grandfather Ahmet to work in the field, he asks about the man in the cemetery. Ahmet tells his grandson that the man is called Zeki. When he was young, Zeki left the village to work in a factory in Sakarya. He lost his heart to a beautiful girl named Sevda. But before they could get married, there was a terrible earthquake one night. Sevda’s house collapsed, and she was buried. Zeki dug her out and carried her to the hospital in her bed sheet, but Sevda died in his arms. Zeki lost his mind, and returned to the village still clutching Sevda’s bed sheet. He carried the sheet with him everywhere, whispering her name. At first, nobody knew what to do, but then they made a grave for Sevda’s sheet. Since that day, Zeki has spent his nights talking with Sevda at the grave, and his days leaving flowers for her in the stream. Whenever Zeki knocks on someone’s door, the villagers feed him. Grandfather Ahmet explains that Zeki is harmless.
Tarik befriends Zeki. The trials are traumatic, and Tarik thinks he has failed, but the village boys accept him anyway.
Turning point One day, a donkey with a newborn foal wanders into the road and is hit by a car. The donkey and her foal go to Tarik’s house, where the mother donkey dies. Tarik feels sorry for the foal and convinces his grandfather to let him try to keep it alive. Although Ahmet knows how it will end, he lets Tarik and Zeki adopt the foal. They name the foal Zipzip.
Climax Tarik loves Zipzip, and Zipzip returns his affection. Tarik and Zeki do their best to keep Zipzip alive, and the other village boys help out too. However, one snowy day, Zipzip dies. Zeki brings the dead foal to the cemetery, and buries him next to Sevda’s grave.
