Dr. Orshteter has developed an unconventional psychological treatment to help his patients heal themselves by simulating their own private issues with the help of a troupe of “actors – therapists”. By taking over an old abandoned train station, the doctor has transformed the main building into two apartments; one for himself, the other as a clinic for his patients. Dr. Orshteter recreates realistic illusions / simulations so his patients can immerse themselves inside their own past memories, present or future situations to confront them head on. The troupe of actors / therapists are unemployed actors that have trouble making ends meet and have not yet had their big break. On the platform of the train station they wait for patients, much like prostitutes wait for customers. They are only paid if they are chosen by the patients… Those actors are of all ages with multiple faces, sensitivities and different backgrounds, their jobs are to play the parts of the patient’s father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife, friend, lover … They transform from victims to executioners, from present beings to ghosts from the past, all those incarnations that this eclectic troupe embody, are keys to the success of Dr. Orshteter’s treatment. Like his patients, Dr. Orshteter suffers from enormous loneliness as his personal life is a total failure. Over the episodes we understand he lives by proxy, hidden behind his observation post. Dr. Orshteter’s daily life is spiced up by the therapeutic “simulations”, the more powerful the situation is, the more the psychiatrist enjoys it… At the beginning of the series, Orshteter seems in control of the world he has created for himself and his patients, he reigns supreme on his practice. We see his patients confront their demons while we get to know them more , we also become familiar with the troupe of actors / therapists and we understand what’s going on backstage…
One day Anna, a forty years old patient is challenged by the unconventional method of the psychiatrist. She is led on to the platform where she must choose an “actor / therapist” but no-one fit her needs, she goes back to Dr. Orshteter’s office and much to the psychiatrist’s surprise, she wants him! The doctor is opposed to this request and politely reminds her that he isn’t one of the “actor / therapist”! However, ultimately he lets himself be dragged by Anna to the other side of the mirror. This psycho-romantic plot succeeds the impossible, Dr. Orshteter stops “playing God” and descends into the fragile world of being a patient himself. Reluctant and vulnerable as he is clearly afraid of confronting his own demons, but with time and with the help and charm of Anna, Orshteter breaks the barriers. After each new session he becomes more addict to those “simulations” but he finally feels alive…
