    • Synopsis
    • Hoard is a UK film debut that seamlessly transitions from a fairy tale into horror, weaving together a psychotic love story, a bittersweet ballad about mothers and daughters, a stylish homage to the 1990s, and a parable about segregation—all infused with themes of love, mourning, joy, and sadness. The film garnered four awards at Venice, including the Grand Prize of Critics' Week for the lead role. Directed by Luna Carmoon, this sensual and emotionally expansive film explores the fragile line between normalcy and insanity. The film draws its dynamic energy from Saura Lightfoot-Leon, who plays Maria, a 17-year-old raised in a nurturing foster home but haunted by her childhood with a sorceress mother whose magic failed against social services. Maria's life seems carefree until it is disrupted by the loss of a friend and the arrival of a new boyfriend, which reawakens old wounds and toxic behaviors. Carmoon boldly navigates through the complexities of memory, distinguishing the valuable from the worthless and separating positive memories from painful ones. Hoard is a poignant exploration of overcoming trauma and the transition into adulthood, which necessitates a farewell to one's childhood.
