    • Synopsis
    • The Germans are coming! To nose around and control the Greeks; because they are - as always - under suspicion to have been lying and cheating. With good reason!

Joerg Geissner, employee of the Munich AVA bank, is arriving at the small Greek island Paladiki to examine the collateral for a secured loan granted some years ago. He has the suspicion that the hospital and power station set as collateral do not exist at all. But the Greeks aren’t foolish: Geissner shall come and prove that there are no collaterals at all! An odyssey begins for the bank employee, at which he is left on his own. Him against the rest of the island. Constantly accompanied by German-Greek Panos, a clever gigolo, who ensures that Geissner won’t be too fast with his investigations.

Meanwhile Spyros, mayor of Paladiki, tries to build up something that looks like it could be a power station. At least by night and in drunk state. The loss of the credit would be a catastrophe to his already impoverished island and mean its certain bankruptcy. Plus the natural beach, which is also part of the deal, will be destroyed by investors building uncharming hotel complexes.

Eventful days follow on Paladiki, during which a shaky sheepfold turns into a power station, and the fastidious accountant Geissner and the freedom-loving rake Panos get to know – and even somehow like - each other. Especially Geissner is transformed by this journey. The more Geissner gets to know about Paladiki’s people, the more he becomes aware of the significance of his own role: The result of his visit will settle the future of the island. So Geissner has to ask himself to whom he really feels responsible - the bank or the people of Paladiki.
