    • Synopsis
    • ANDREY, ZORA, RENAT and MIXER are four friends in their late twenties. Immigrants from the Soviet Union, they live in a poor neighborhood in a peripheral Israeli town. Andrey, Zora and Renat are part of a hip-hop group. For them, rap is more than just music;it’s an opportunity to express themselves,to make their voices heard. They spend their time rehearsing in an abandoned house, preparing for an upcoming audition for an international music festival. They hope that winning the competition will allow them to influence the world, change reality around them.
Andrey, our main character, lives with his 11-year-old sister CHRISTINA. Their mother passed away, and their father has been in the hospital the past several months. Andrey cannot make the mortgage payments. After amassing serious debt, his bank account is shut down, forcing him to work illegally at the Ashdod Port. This, too, is not enough, and the bank threatens foreclosure on the apartment.
The abandoned house where they rehearse is also the meeting place for the neighborhood’s young people. Police officers raid the house and kick them all out. A violent struggle between the youngsters and the cops ends badly. Andrey spends two days in jail, which costs him his job. He’s lost his income, and his band has lost its rehearsal space. Things are looking bad, but putting on a live show in the neighborhood encourages the friends; the audience is enthusiastic, and they begin to believe they can pass the audition.Still,Andrey remains desperate for money. He turns to Mixer, who works as a debt collector for the mob to support his wife and daughter. Mixer warns Andrey against getting into his line of work. Meanwhile, social services threaten to put Andrey’s sister in foster care if Andrey loses the apartment.
When his friends hear about Andrey’s troubles, they come to his aid. They hope to raise at least part of the sum he owes, but they fail. Our heroes sink into deep despair, and decide to give up on the audition. Helpless, Andrey secretly borrows money from criminals and pays off the mortgage. When they meet again, the band members realize that giving up on the audition means giving up on themselves and their hope for change. They’re newly motivated for the audition. The day before the audition, the criminals demand that Andrey come work for them as payment on his debt. His friends intervene, and a violent fight breaks out between the bandmate and the criminals. Worried about the fate of his friends, Andrey finds a gun one of the criminals dropped on the ground and shoots him. The criminals run off, promising revenge. Mixer hides his family, along with Andrey’s sister, in another city.
In spite of the criminals’ threats, the band shows up for the audition and succeeds against all odds. They are accepted into the international competition. Later, in the inevitable showdown, out in the middle of nowhere, our four heroes confront the criminals, awaiting their fate.
