    • Synopsis
    • With GRIMM, van Warmerdam travels from the cold, misty northern woods of his native country to the sunnier, yet still dark, vistas of Spain in telling a post-modern fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel gone awry.

Grimm was Alex van Warmerdam’s fifth movie that premiered in 2003 at the International Film Festival San Sebastian: “It’s my only movie I always thought I could have gotten more out of.” When it turned out that all the footage of the film, which was still shot on celluloid, was intact, Van Warmerdam decided to readdress the story along with his editor Job ter Burg. This led to more than just a new cut. The image, sound and music were revamped as well.
