- Synopsis
- On August 5th 1977, the previous day of the large-scale celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the formation of the USSR, two cousins – Nikolai and Felix Kalachyans planned and committed the robbery of the Yerevan branch of the USSR State Bank, stealing 1.5 million rubles (nearly 2 million dollars) from the bank. In the USSR, where private ownership was prohibited, and the slightest disruption of state property were harshly punished by the law, uncovering such a daring crime immediately became a matter of honor for two organizations – The People’s Commissariat for Internal Affairs (the MVD) and the almighty KGB, The Committee for State Security, and it was taken under the direct supervision of the state government.
