    • Synopsis
    • Azusa is a high school sophomore who tries hard to be part of the “in” crowd by essentially letting herself serve as their errand running disciple. One day she finds out that she’s in danger of failing P.E. class for having skipped an important dance test. Her P.E. teacher tells Azusa and 4 other outcast girls, pejoratively labeled “The Basics” that they can make up the credits if they take part in a local “Autumn Festival” dance show.

Under the tutelage of a suspiciously frivolous dance instructor named Kenny Nagao, the Basics start practicing for their street dance performance. Despite abysmal teamwork, the 5 girls still end up giving it their best effort and surprisingly win the enthusiastic support of the crowd.

Suddenly they discover that they enjoy dancing, and begin coalescing into a group of friends with whom they feel free to smile and be themselves. The Basics decide to start a dance club at school and set their sites on a regional competition. There happens some unexpected troubles and furthermore Azusa’s reluctance to distance herself from the popular crowd threatens her new friendships. With the competition fast approaching, the 5 girls find their dance club falling apart. Can they pull it all together in the end?
