Dadu, a young man, living with his old grandmother brings a buffalo as per his Grandmother's demands. Being unmarried and in his mid-thirties, Dadu is a constant victim of his Grandmother's taunts. Dadu looks down on his father who has died of suicide; and believes that his father is the cause for him not being able to complete his education. He is in complete denial about the fact that he is the reason for his father's death. One fine day his newly bought buffalo suddenly gestates and he hesitates in getting the buffalo mated, which leads to his grandmother taunting him further, saying he wants to remain unmarried and chooses to do the same with the buffalo by denying it a mate. Tired of his Grandmother's ranting, Dadu sets out to look for a mate for his buffalo. But it proves to be difficult, as male calves are sold to the butcher as soon as they are born. Finally he reaches a village which houses a male buffalo. Upon going there, he witnesses marriage preparation, but the groom returning empty handed. Upon enquiring he comes to know that the girl supposed to get married has ran away with the male buffalo. He then takes up the responsibility of looking for them and bringing them home. This is the journey of a boy who discovers himself while on the lookout for the buffalo.
