    • Synopsis
    • It is the year 1959 and the construction of the Aswan hydroelectric dam on the river Nile will submerge lands in Egypt and Sudan. It is necessary to implement immediately a program of rescue archeology, to save from destruction many temples, statues, and objects of incalculable value.

The world powers, attracted by the offer of retaining 50% of the recovered materials for their own museums, send expeditions to participate in the rescue effort. Incredibly, Argentina also joins the adventure.

A Latin American country, with so many domestic problems, dares to travel to the other side of the globe to participate in an international cultural rescue project? Who is the person responsible for leading such an effort, and what motivates him to take on this challenge?

Dr. Abraham Rosenvasser is not an archeologist, but rather a historian and lawyer. Born in the middle of the Argentine pampas in 1896, he is a professor of Ancient Middle East History at the National Universities of La Plata and Buenos Aires in Argentina.

Through a series of interviews with his daughter Elsa, and through letters, photos, and documents that she keeps, we discover the details of the work of Dr. Rosenvasser in the north of Sudan (in the region of Nubia) in the years 1961 – 1963. Rosenvasser managed to complete his mission and turn over to the Sudanese half of the priceless archeological treasures rescued from the rising waters of the Nile.

The objects awarded to Argentina began a long journey until they arrived at the Natural Sciences Museum in the city of La Plata. It is there that today the relics from Sudan can be found, and where the legacy of Dr. Rosenvasser to Argentine culture can be fully appreciated.
