    • Flying Dragon, Dancing Phoenix is the only contemporary based on Taiwanese folk opera. The film depicts a family of opera performers traveling north and south against heat and hurricane in order to make a living and carry on the opera tradition. After receiving a Lifetime Achievement award, the old patriarch passes away, which is followed by his daughter, the successor and star of the show, injuring her leg. The survival of the troupe now falls on the son-in-law. He receives unexpected help from the family’s wandering prodigal son, whose ex-wife and current girlfriend both star for the troupe. Together, family members navigate through twists and turns, hold on to their audience, and continue to promote and rejuvenate their art form. This hilarious and heartwarming story is brimming story is brimming with laughs and tears, and offers a unique look at the onstage lives of Taiwanese folk opera perfumers, including a delightful twist on the traditional practice of switching gender roles.
